Very old family of the French nobility, the d'Apchier family originates from Gévaudan, territory at the crossroads of Haute-Loire and Lozère. Last Baron of Saint Vidal before the Revolution of 1789, Jean-Joseph d'Apchier is notably known for having ordered the hunt during which Jean Chastel defeated the mythical Beast of Gévaudan.
