A timeless setting
The Château de Saint-Vidal, a massive stone structure, is softened by the greenery that has adorned it since its origins. Since 2018, the 16th-century orchard has been transformed into three gardens for this restored architectural gem. The creation of a landscaped and themed park offers visitors a unique botanical, floral, visual, and olfactory experience.
Sebastiano Serlio, a great architect of the Italian Renaissance, left his mark on the fortress of Saint-Vidal, and this garden has been dedicated to him in tribute. This Mediterranean-style space offers a privileged view of the Borne Valley and its landscape, typical of our splendid Haute-Loire department. Let yourself be lulled by the delicate scents of sage and lavender that fill the terrace and enjoy a timeless moment where Italy and Auvergne meet.
To the east of Saint Vidal Castle, the French garden is a feast for the senses. A true tribute to André Le Nôtre, as well as to French expertise and culture, this majestic space forges a link between the medieval period and French classicism. With its vast expanse of lush green lawns and charming, fragrant rose garden, enjoy the tranquility and beauty of nature as you stroll along the paths and enjoy an extraordinary sensory experience.
A recurring theme throughout the architectural ensemble of the Fortress of Saint Vidal, the Renaissance also left its mark on the castle’s water garden. Considered the mirror of the soul, water is a special guest in this space, which once housed the building’s moat.
Still omnipresent today, the water basin acts as a mirror in which everyone can admire this Lady of Stone.
Let yourself wander through this small corner of paradise, intimate and soothing.
